Blog Day 2007August 31, 2007 is the 3rd annual Blog Day. On that day, bloggers take time out to recommend 5 blogs to the reading public. According to tradition, there is much tagging, plenty of trackbacks, and from what I understand, strange and secret rituals that leave one scarred both physically and mentally. (But this is my first year celebrating, so I could be wrong.)

Well, the day is not quite over, so here are my five recommended blogs.

Mashable This is already a popular blog, but I wanted to mention it all the same. A new feature of their blog is the regular posting of toolboxes: from everything you need to know about Flickr tools or Firefox plugins, to comparisons of startpages and toolbars. Mashable’s main focus is social networks; they’ve recently created one of their own.

Free Government Information (FGI) “is a place for initiating dialogue and building consensus among the various players (libraries, government agencies, non-profit organizations, researchers, journalists, etc.) who have a stake in the preservation of and perpetual free access to government information. FGI promotes free government information through collaboration, education, advocacy and research.”

omg tuna is kewl is the blog of a medical librarian, who writes under the name “Ratcatcher.” Oh yeah, in addition to the blog, Ratcatcher has a sweet del.icio.us page.

Reading Copy is the blog of AbeBooks.

And last but never least, Cupcake Bakeshop. A couple of months ago I made the Chocolate Chai Spice Cupcakes— they were a huge hit.
