LC Working Group Meeting, May 9 May 9, 2007

The second meeting of the Library of Congress Working Group on the Future of Bibliographic Control has taken place in Chicago. Diane Hillman at the LITA blog, who was also a presenter, blogged the proceedings in two parts. Her own presentation (which she did not summarize), she hopes to provide later. I was interested to see that David Bade was on the agenda to speak. Perhaps unknown to many, Mr. Bade is a frequent contributor on the AUTOCAT mailing list, and has participated on various committees devoted to the catalog and its future.

Summaries of the meeting:
- Diane Hillman (at the LITA blog): Part 1, Part 2
- Mark Lindner, who attended
and spoke as well, has a teaser, but promises to post his notes over the weekend.(Diane gives a covers his remarks in Part 2 of her summary.)
The last public meeting of the Working Group will be July 9, 2007. Its theme will be Economics and Organization of Bibliographic Data. The meeting will be held in northern Virginia, exact location to be determined.
UPDATE: Mark Lindner has now posted notes on the meeting. Thanks to Mark and Kathryn, who took copious notes and have given us all much to read and think about.

Hi Minerva,
I just saw Diane Hillmann’s part 2 and now see where (not how) the confusion arose. I left a comment there before this spreads too far, but that was my boss, Michael Norman, Head of Content Access Management at UIUC, who spoke and NOT me.
I have no idea how Diane pulled my name out of a hat but, as a student who will be looking for a job in the next several months, being given public credit for something your boss did is not how one wants to start that process. Nor would I ever deign to speak for my institution is such a circumstance.
Yikes! I am so sorry, Mark. I will correct this post right away. I hope this mistake hasn’t caused you any inconvenience.
Not so far anyway.
I sent the boss an “explanation” right after I commented here, but thank you for doing an update.
