TV + Internet= Bed sores
There’s a lot on YouTube that may not be worth your time– one look at the most popular videos will confirm that. (I don’t include OK Go on treadmills in that example– that video is genius.) I’d read that there were also interesting silent films and rare interviews on the site. Well, there are some, but they are few and far between, and searching for them will take some time.
Librarians have begun using YouTube for everything from staff tutorials on how to use a new phone system, to patron tutorials and guides. I would like to see libraries use YouTube to broadcast their mission to the linguistic minorities in their area. Perhaps not every branch has a librarian that speaks a certain language. A video tutorial using subtitles or voice over would be helpful.
I found this clip from the 1968 Soviet film adaptation of Tolstoy’s War and Peace, directed by Sergei Bondarchuk. In this scene, Prince Andrei (played by Vyacheslav Tikhonov) declares his love for Natasha (Liudmila Savaleva).
